  • Why Join a Home Watch Scheme?

Home Watch schemes play a vital part in preventing crime, and statistics show that you are less likely to be burgled if you belong to an active Home Watch scheme. You may also receive a reduction in the cost of your house insurance.

By joining your local Home Watch scheme you can feel more secure knowing that you and your neighbours are keeping an eye on each other’s property.
Getting together with your neighbours can prevent crime and well-run schemes have a big impact on reducing the opportunities for crime.
Home Watch can play a big part in reassuring those who live in fear of crime.
Home Watch can rekindle community spirit and is a great way to get to know your neighbours.

    BROOKLANDS

is seven miles south west of the city centre; between Altrincham Road, Brooklands Road, Sale Road and Moor Road. It's close to the suburban centres of Sale and Altrincham, with good access to Manchester Airport and the motorway network to other areas of south Manchester and Cheshire.

There are local shops on Wendover Road, and a large Tesco supermarket on Altrincham Road. Timperley village shopping centre is less than a mile away. The civic centre in the middle of Wythenshawe has more shopping, a food hall and a thriving market.

Brooklands is also close to Wythenshawe park - one of the biggest and best in the city. There's a horticultural centre, pets corner, crazy golf, horse riding, bowling greens, pitch and putt, tennis courts, an athletics track, football pitches and much more.

The Home Watch scheme in place has four main objectives:

    To Prevent Crime
by improving security, increasing vigilance and protecting the most vulnerable members of the community by encouraging a caring community spirit.
To help with the detection of criminals
    by promoting effective communication.
To reduce the undue fear of crime
by providing accurate information about risks, supporting victims, promoting a sense of security and a caring community.
To improve Police – Community relations and liaison
    by fostering regular contact.

    The Big Lunch

The Big Lunch is a very simple idea from the Eden Project. The aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in a simple act of community, friendship and fun. Last year it happened on Sunday 3rd June and a record number of people took take part in the Jubilee celebrations. Why not be one of them this year?

A Big Lunch can be anything from a few neighbours getting together in the garden or on the street, to a full blown party with food, music and decoration that quite literally stops the traffic.

Since starting in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all kinds of communities across the UK and the best part of a million people get involved each year.

This year we will celebrate our fifth Big Lunch and recommend it to anyone.
